Pink Poppies for the Nursery

Several years ago, I painted these brightly colored poppies for my daughter to hang over the mantel in her New York apartment.

She married and moved to an apartment with no fireplace so the poppies spent some time stored in her mother-in-law's basement.

Recently, they've moved again... this time across the country! The poppies now hang in my new granddaughter's nursery.

There was a slight problem... the poppies needed to be pink! Grandma Peg traveled with tubes of permanent rose and zinc white. Voila!!! Pink poppies... easy peasy!

The room is not quite finished, but here's a sneak peak!

Summer Memories

I finished another small painting of my granddaughters on the beach last summer. They were having a conversation when a big wave splashed over them. I wish I knew what they were discussing!

It will hang in my daughter's guest room along with the painting below. I made a few changes to it and calmed the sea a bit.

Little Lambs for a new baby girl!

I have a beautiful new granddaughter... 7 pounds 12 ounces of adorable sweetness!

Who wants to paint when you can do this?

Last fall I painted these little lambs for her nursery. It's hung with a big pink satin bow. I hope our little one has sweet dreams when she looks up at it! Of course, I'll have to put her down first!

Today, I grouped most of the work I've done during the 30 in 30 challenge and snapped this photo. While I haven't finished a painting each day, I'm proud of myself for actually painting several things already this year!

Somewhere Out There

Today's painting is of my oldest granddaughter on the beach last summer. I painted my younger granddaughter HERE, and grandmothers do need to be fair!

The day the photo was taken, the ocean was rolling with waves. It was just after a storm. Initially, I painted the water to reflect that. Then I came back and calmed the sea a bit so the focus of the painting was more on the child. I think that gave the painting more depth. 

Fearless Frolic

Last summer my granddaughters had a great time playing on the beach. The two-year-old showed no fear of the waves. She ran and splashed with abandon, in spite of the fact that both her parents and various other relatives hovered nearby trying to keep her safe.

Grandma Peg was busy with the camera. I specifically took some shots that didn't show her face. I'm not a portrait artist, but I really wanted to capture the moment. I hope this little painting will remind us of the fun we had!
